Alambic Brandy

Alambic Brandy is brandy that is made from Alambic stills -- the same type of stills as are used in making cognac.

Many different types of grapes used in making Alambic, whereas Cognac is made only from a few grapes.

Alambic is double-distilled, as Cognac is.

The first producer in America was the Carneros Alambic Distillery (Rémy-Cointreau SA of France) which started operation in 1982 and began selling it in 1984.

Alambic Brandy is now also being made in South Africa. The quality there is rated by designations such as "QE" ("Qualité Extraordinaire"), South Africa's equivalent of an XO level brand, SR (Special Reserve) and XR.
