Australian Spotted Ducks

Australian Spotted Ducks are small ducks, weighing just 2 to 2.2 pounds (around 1 kg.)

They have an almost horizontal body, with complex feather colouring. The head will be blue, silver or green.

They can fly but generally stay close to home: still, it is generally advised to clip one wing.

They like to forage for insects, slugs, snails, mosquito larvae, etc.

The ducks are tame, and mature fast. The females are good mothers.

They have meaty breasts with very finely textured meat.
The name "Australian Spotted Ducks" is quite misleading; the breed actually originated in America. It was developed in Pennsylvania in the 1920s by John C. Kriner and Stanley Mason by crossing Call, Mallard, Northern Pintail, and an unidentified wild Australian duck for several generations. Finally, they did a selection that would form the new breed, and first exhibited it in 1928.
